Install the RefControl addon. Specify the site as just <a href="http://wsj.com" rel="nofollow">wsj.com</a>, not <a href="http://online.wsj.com" rel="nofollow">online.wsj.com</a>. Set to spoof <a href="http://www.google.com/news/" rel="nofollow">http://www.google.com/news/</a> as the referrer, as you described.
