Install the RefControl addon. Specify the site as just <a href="http://wsj.com" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" title="wsj.com">wsj.com</a>, not <a href="http://online.wsj.com" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" title="online.wsj.com">online.wsj.com</a>. Set to spoof <a href="http://www.google.com/news/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" title="http://www.google.com/news/">http://www.google.com/news/</a> as the referrer, as you described.
